VRT SANDBOX: FROM MATCHMAKING TO FUNDING
5 years ago, VRT Sandbox was launched as an inhouse accelerator to let start-ups and scale-ups test and scale their innovations on the production floor of a public broadcaster. Via matchmaking, dissemination, collaboration and networking, VRT Sandbox aimed to introduce new technologies and ideas to production teams. By testing new solutions during a period of 3 months, start-ups are able to gain valuable insights, further develop their solution and grow as a business. The success of this collaboration lies in the speed at which we can find a match and the lightweight Way of Working of experimenting on the floor. In addition to this matchmaking process, VRT Sandbox boosts media innovation with start-ups through its participation in the joint venture Media Invest Vlaanderen and collaboration in the EU-funded projects STADIEM and MediaMotorEurope.
With the piloting programme of STADIEM, VRT Sandbox aims to bring start-ups, the media sector and investors closer together. Via this four-stage programme, start-ups are able to integrate their media solution live on air and receive the funds to make it happen. STADIEM has a budget of €3,86M available and each start-up or SME could receive up to €150,000 for their project. So if you are working on AI, data, content creation & distribution, or monetization, you can apply for their first open call now. More information can be found on stadiem.eu.
Thanks to MediaMotorEurope, VRT Sandbox offers a unique tailor-made coaching and mentorship programme for media start-ups. Through collaboration, VRT is able to provide additional support and coaching to startups and scaleups, while tackling some of today’s largest media challenges.
Lastly, VRT Sandbox is part of Media Invest Vlaanderen, a collaboration between VRT and PMV. Media Invest Vlaanderen aims to strengthen the audiovisual sector in a sustainable way by investing in promising companies.
